Grace Lee
Born 1995, from the United Kingdom – Coupling soft focus and rough texture, Grace Lee’s contradictory work appears both firm and slippery – a tightly woven web of overlapping history, humour and visual culture, that threatens to unravel as soon as its out of sight. Formed from what might first appear as disparate subject matter, this small series of work tells a concise narrative of celebration and collapse within their brief windows into natural, historical and social order. Trembling between creation and destruction, there's a reflection on our current ecological and political moment or, more precisely, the overriding sense of doom present in contemporary response that alternates between suppression and embrace, the suspicion that this may be the beginning of something that is already over. Lee lives and works in London.
